1 c. butter, very soft
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted powdered sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
Red and green food coloring

In mixer bowl, add vanilla to softened butter; add sugar and mix well. Add flour and blend well. Divide dough into 2 balls. Color one ball red and one ball green. Roll out one ball into a circle or oblong (may have to use hands). Moisten edges with water. Roll out other ball on wax paper and flip onto other rolled out ball. Roll up like a jelly roll and slice cookies 1/4 inch thick. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Do not brown too much as they will lose their color.
