YELLOW CAKE 
2 c. flour, sifted
1 1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. milk
3 tsp. baking powder
1/3 c. milk
2 whole eggs
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Measure flour, sugar, shortening, salt and milk into mixing bowl and blend for 2 minutes. Stir in baking powder. Add milk, eggs and vanilla and blend for 2 minutes. Cook in 2 (8 inch) cake pans at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. When cool, frost with Caramel Frosting.

CARAMEL NUT FROSTING:

1 1/2 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
2 tbsp. shortening

Combine all ingredients and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Cook slowly. When small amount forms a soft ball in cold water, set pan aside to cool. When cool, beat until mixture thickens, add 1 tablespoon cream and beat until thick enough to spread. Add 1/2 cup nuts and frost cake.
