CONGO SQUARES 
2/3 c. shortening
2 1/4 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
2 3/4 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips

Melt shortening and remove from heat. Add brown sugar, mixing well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Add nut meats and chocolate chips. Mixture will be very stiff. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes until tested done. Cut into squares when cool.

Makes 12 (3 x 3-inch) squares or 48 (1 1/2-inch) squares.
