M & M COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. plain M & Ms (3/4 lb. pkg.)

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla thoroughly. Mix together flour, soda and salt. Add dry ingredients gradually to mixture, mix well. Stir in 1/2 cup plain M & Ms. Reserve remaining candies for decorating. Drop by teaspoons on ungreased baking sheet. Decorate tops of cookies with remaining M & Ms. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until light brown. Makes about 6 dozen (2 1/2 inch) cookies.
