NEVER FAIL DUMPLINGS 
1 1/2 c. flour, plain
3 tbsp. shortening
1 egg, well beaten
5 tbsp. water or cold chicken broth
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 tsp. black pepper

Mix flour, salt and pepper. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender. Add broth or water and egg.

Makes a soft dough. Divide into two parts and roll our very thin and cut into strips. Let dry at least 15 minutes. Cut into small squares and drop into boiling chicken broth. Cook until tender.
