FRESH APPLE CAKE WITH ICING 
2 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
3 eggs
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. all spice
1/2 c. warm water plus 2 tbsp.
3 med. large apples, grated
1 tbsp. vanilla

Cream together sugar and Crisco, then add eggs. Sift together dry ingredients. Add flour alternately with water. Add apples and vanilla. Bake in 3 layers at 355 degrees (or tube) for 1 hour 9 inch layers. Ice with Brown Icing.

BROWN ICING:

Melt 2/3 sticks butter in sauce pan. Add 2 level tablespoons flour. Add 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup sweet milk. Boil for 1 minute. Remove form heat and add 1 box powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup chopped pecans.
