DANISH PASTRY APPLE BARS | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 c. shortening 1 egg yolk (add enough milk to make 2/3 c.), save egg white Combine these ingredients and roll out (a little less than half this dough) and place on a cookie sheet which has upturned edges. Next sprinkle 2 handfuls of crushed corn flakes or Rice Krispies over the crust. Then slice 8 to 10 large cooking apples over the crust. Sprinkle 1 cup sugar and 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon over the apples. Cover with the remaining rolled dough and pinch the edges of dough together to seal. Next beat the egg white and brush over the crust. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. After the bars have baked, mix 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon water and 1 tablespoon vanilla and spread over the warm crust. |
