1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. soft shortening
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together. Add the shortening, milk, and vanilla. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Add egg and beat 2 more minutes. Bake in a 9 x 9 inch pan for 30 minutes. Double recipe for a 13 x 9 inch pan. (350 degrees.)
