RED CABBAGE 
1 sm. head red cabbage
3 tbsp. bacon grease
2 med. sized apples, diced
1 c. water
4 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Shred the cabbage quite finely. Melt bacon grease in a large pot, add cabbage and apple, stirring until well mixed. Add water, vinegar and spices. Cook until tender.
