1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar, plus 2 tbsp. for topping
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts, optional
2 c. applesauce

Cream shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Add eggs. Add next 5 ingredients; mix. Add applesauce and mix again. Pour into sheet pan or tube pan. Sprinkle with remaining sugar, chocolate chips and chopped nuts. Bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.
