ALFONSE'S GOOD FRIDAY BREAD 
1 loaf Italian bread
1 lg tomato
1 lb Provolone cheese
1 stick butter
1/8 cup minced garlic or 1 clove
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 cup sweet onion sliced sandwich thin

In a small pan, caramelize onions in 2 pats of butter. Mix remaining butter, garlic, onion and garlic powder together. Butter the loaf with the spread, layer tomato, onion and cheese on top.

Bake at 325°F until cheese has browned lightly. This is also great with a good lunch meat ham and salami! try using banana peppers, too.
