BURNT CARAMEL NUT PIE (OLD-TIME) | |
Put 1/2 cup sugar in a frying pan. Place over a hot fire and let burn until sugar is melted and a rich brown color. Add 1 cup of boiling water and let boil until sugar is dissolved. Beat together: 3 eggs 1 1/2 c. sugar 3 tbsp. flour Add to this: 2 c. sweet milk 2 tbsp. melted butter Put in the frying pan with the caramel mixture and cook over a hot fire, stirring constantly until thick. Just before taking from fire, add 1 cup of nutmeats, chopped fine (hickory nuts preferred). Fill pie crust with this mixture and dot over top with whipped cream. This recipe makes 2 pies. |
