POORMAN CAKE 
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. shortening (solid)
3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves, ground
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Cook 1 pound raisins in enough water to make 1 cup puree. Put raisins in cake batter and juice. Put in last 1/2 cup hot water with 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
