BRAN MUFFINS | |
6 c. or 1 box of 100% Bran Cereal, divided 2 c. boiling water 1 c. butter or shortening 3 c. white sugar 4 eggs 4 c. (1 qt) buttermilk 5 c. flour 5 tsp. baking soda Mix white sugar with cinnamon. Melt butter. Roll biscuits individually in butter, then cinnamon & sugar and place in baking pan (a metal gelatin ring mold works very well). Bake around 20 minutes at 350°F and check. You may want to turn out onto another baking sheet so that it finishes baking evenly. Add powdered sugar gradually to any left over melted butter (melt more if needed). Add milk and vanilla as desired to make frosting. Apply thick frosting to hot biscuits; it will thin some as it melts. Garnish with maraschino cherries if you want! Get creative! Skip the sweets and add garlic, onion powder, oregano, basil, olive oil, whatever to the melted butter. Sprinkle with parmesan or other grated/shredded cheeses. Top with sesame seeds and give your creation a quick turn under the broiler. (When not using sugar, you can use higher heat and shorter cooking times. See original baking directions on biscuit tube and play it by ear!) "It wouldn't be Christmas morning without our cinnamon rolls!" |
