DEEP - FRIED PASTRY STRIPS 
2 c. flour (or as much as needed)
4 tbsp. light cream
4 egg yolks
4 tbsp. sugar
Pinch salt
1 lb. Crisco shortening

All ingredients (except the shortening) should be kneaded together (keep adding flour if needed) until blisters start to form. Put the dough in the refrigerator to rest for a few hours.

Flour the table. Roll out dough 1/8-inch thick and cut into 4-inch long and 1-inch wide strips. Make a slit lengthwise in the center of each strip and slip one end of the strip through the slit.

Bring fat to boil (350-375 degrees) in an electric frying pan. Drop the strips 3-4 at a time in the fat. When one side gets brown, turn over. Take out; place on paper towel to absorb the excess shortening. Place on a platter; sprinkle with powdered sugar.
