OLD FASHIONED BEEF STEW 
1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 lb. chuck or bottom round, cut into 2" pieces
1 tbsp. shortening
1 qt. hot water
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 pared potatoes, cubed
1 med. turnip, cubed
4 carrots, quartered
1 c. diced celery
1/2 c. diced parsnips
1 green pepper, cut into strips
1/3 c. diced onion
1 tsp. salt
2 beef bouillon cubes

Mix flour, paprika and the pepper; roll meat in flour mixture. Brown thoroughly in hot shortening. Add water. Simmer covered 2 hours (add more water if necessary). Add remaining ingredients. Cook until vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes. 8 servings.
