SOPAPILLAS 
1 pkg. yeast, mixed in water
3 c. flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. shortening
3 tbsp. Karo syrup

Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening until fine. Add yeast, water and Karo until dough is stiff. Knead 2-3 minutes. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut in squares, approximately 2 x 2 inches and fry until golden brown.
