OLD FASHIONED BEEF STEW | |
2 lbs. beef chuck 2 tbsp. fat 4 c. boiling water 1 tbsp. lemon juice (optional) 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1 med. onion, sliced 1 clove garlic 1-2 bay leaves 1 tbsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 tsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. paprika Dash of allspice or cloves 6 carrots 1 lb. sm. onions 4 potatoes Brown meat - add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion, bay leaves and seasoning. Cover - simmer 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaves and garlic. Add carrots and onions, cubed potatoes. Cover and cook 30 minutes more or until vegetables are done. Remove meat and vegetables. Thicken liquid for gravy. 8- 10 servings. |
