TEXAS MC GINTIES (DRIED APPLE PIE) | |
1 lb. dried apples 1 1/2 c. brown sugar (may use half white) 1/8 tsp. salt 1 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg (optional) May also add 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Cover apples with cold water and soak overnight. Using the same water (more if necessary) cook apples until tender. Add sugar, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Continue to cook until thick, stirring frequently. Fill pie crust, cut vent in top crust. Bake at 350 to 375 degrees for about 50 minutes, or until crust is brown and the apples "ooze" from the vents. Some recipes I have for dried apple pie call for cloves and allspice, 1/4 teaspoon for each pie plus the cinnamon and nutmeg. |
