CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
2/3 c. soft shortening (part butter)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips (about 1 1/4 c.)
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Add shortening, sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla, and mix thoroughly. Add flour, soda, and salt. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.

Preheat oven to 375°F. Drop rounded tsp. about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake until delicately browned (about 8 to 10 minutes). Cookies should still be soft.

Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.

Makes 4 to 5 doz. 2 inch cookies.
