CUSTOM HOUSE CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
2/3 c. butter, room temperature
2 eggs, room temperature
2 squares chocolate
1 c. milk
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

Melt chocolate. Cream sugar and butter, beat in eggs, 1 at a time. Add melted chocolate and beat well. Add milk, beat, add sifted flour, other dry ingredients plus vanilla; beat well.

Pour into well greased and floured pan or pans. Even off batter, then rap pan(s) on counter 2 or 3 times.

Start baking at 250 degrees then reset oven to 350 degrees as soon as cake is in oven. Do not touch for at least 1/2 hour.

Bake about 50 minutes. Cool on rack after removing from pan as soon as possible.
