1 1/2 c. minced onion
1/4 lb. sliced mushrooms
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 lb. ground beef
3/4 c. beef broth
5/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
4 potatoes
3 tbsp. butter
2 eggs
4 tart apples
1/2 c. fine bread crumbs

In frying pan, saute onions and mushrooms in vegetable oil. Add meat. Saute 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in broth. Bring to a simmer. Add 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper.

Boil peeled potatoes for about 30 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste. Beat in eggs and remaining nutmeg.

Peel, core and slice apples. Spread 1/3 potatoes in greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Top with half the meat and half the apples. Continue, ending with potatoes. Sprinkle with bread crumbs. Dot with butter. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes, then at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
