1 c. butter
1 c. powdered sugar
2 eggs
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. Crisco
1 c. granulated sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt

Cream butter, shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Add flour sifted with dry ingredients. Roll into balls and roll into granulated sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
