1 1/2 c. shortening 1/4 c. butter 1 1/2 c. sugar 2 c. scalded milk 1 tbsp. salt 2 tsp. vanilla 1 lg. yeast 1/2 c. warm water 6 eggs, beaten 10 c. flour NUT FILLING: 1/4 lb. butter, melted 3/4 c. milk 1 1/2 c. honey 2 lbs. ground nuts Mix filling ingredients well and spread immediately on dough. Place yeast in warm water to dissolve. Add shortening and butter to scalded milk. Add sugar, salt and vanilla. Add eggs to flour. Alternately add and mix yeast and milk mixture to flour. Knead dough until elastic. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in size. Roll 1/4" thin. Spread with filling, roll dough as jelly roll, pinch ends to seal. Let rise again. Paint top with beaten egg, sprinkle with sugar. Bake 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees. |
