7 to 8 lbs. pickles BRINE SOLUTION: 1 pt. salt 1 gal. water ALUM SOLUTION: 3 tbsp. alum powder 1 gal. water Cut ends only off freshly washed pickles. Place in 5 gallon plastic bucket with brine solution. Let stand in bucket for 6 days, on sixth day wash pickles and bucket well. Cut pickles into spears. Return to bucket with alum solution, that's been heated to a boil. Boil brine "only" every day for 3 days. On the third day wash pickles and bucket again. Return spears to bucket. Follow directions on package of Mrs. Wages. Pour mix on pickles in bucket. Will last forever in bucket. When ready to eat, dip and place in 1 quart jar and chill. Enjoy. Store bucket in cool place. |
