CHOCOLATE OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. quick cooking oats, uncooked
6 oz. pkg. semi - sweet chocolate morsels
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Combine flour, soda, baking powder and salt; set aside. Combine sugar and shortening, cream well; beat in eggs and vanilla. Add flour mixture; mix well. Stir in oats and chocolate morsels, add nuts. Drop dough by heaping teaspoons onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheets. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Yields 6 1/2 dozen.
