WALDORF ASTORIA RED CAKE 
Cake:

1 stick butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 oz. red food coloring
2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. white vinegar

Cream together butter, sugar and eggs. Combine cocoa and coloring and add to butter mixture. Add buttermilk alternately with salt and flour. Mix in vanilla. Mix in vinegar and soda.

Bake for 30 minutes at 350°F in 2 (8-inch) greased and floured cake pans. Cool. Cut layers in half to make four layers. Fill and stack layers. Ice all over.

Frosting:

1 c. butter
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. powdered sugar
5 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
dash of salt

Over low heat, stir flour and milk until thick and then cool. Cream together powdered sugar, butter and vanilla until fluffy. Add to flour mixture and beat until fluffy.
