VANILLA BUTTER NUT POUND CAKE 
3 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1 sm. can milk (add water to make 1 c.)
1/4 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
2 sticks butter
5 lg. eggs
2 tbsp. butter nut flavoring

Cream shortening, sugar and salt. Add eggs, one at a time. Add flour and milk, alternately, ending with flour. Beat in flavoring. Bake at 325 degrees in a greased tube pan for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Start in COLD OVEN. Do not open oven door while baking. Remove from pan immediately.

You can, after you have greased the pan, sprinkle the pan with sugar, this will give the outside of cake a sweet and crisp texture.
