3/4 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter 1 egg 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 2 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. ground cinnamon Shortening EQUIPMENT: Measuring cups & spoons Large mixing bowl Wooden spoon Electric mixer Small mixing bowl Spoon Cookie sheet Hot pads Pancake turner In a large mixing bowl cream the 3/4 cup sugar and the butter with an electric mixer. Beat in the egg and vanilla. In small bowl stir together flour, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar. Stir into butter mixture with wooden spoon until well mixed. In same bowl combine the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon. Turn oven on to 375 degrees. Grease 1 or 2 cookie sheets with some shortening. Shape dough into 1" balls; roll each in the sugar cinnamon mixture. Put balls 2" apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Use pancake turner to put cookies on plate. Makes about 36. |
