PICKLED BEETS 
1 (No. 2) can tiny whole beets
1/2 c. vinegar
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. whole black pepper
3 bay leaves
1 tsp. whole cloves

Empty beets into saucepan; add vinegar and sugar; stir gently until sugar is dissolved. Add bay leaves, pepper and cloves. Heat to boiling and simmer until beets are heated through. Chill, covered at least overnight in refrigerator. Drain well and serve. Longer in refrigerator the better.
