GRANDMA MOHR'S GREBBLE
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 pt. sour cream
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
About 3 c. flour or enough to make batter thick
Powdered sugar as needed

Beat eggs and sugar together; add cream, salt, buttermilk, sour cream, baking powder and baking soda. Beat until thick; add flour gradually. Let set at least 2 hours or overnight and then roll out on floured board to 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut into 2 1/2 x 4-inch squares. Make a slit in the middle of each square and pull end through the middle to make a twist. Using tongs, dip each twisted piece of dough into hot oil until golden in color. Turn over and brown other side. Cool, then sprinkle with powdered sugar. Each pastry will be shaped differently.
