JULE KAGE (SWEDISH CHRISTMAS BREAD) 
3 1/4 to 3 1/2 c. flour
1 pkg. yeast
1 c. milk
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. crushed cardamom
1 sm. egg
1/4 c. citron
1/2 c. raisins

In large mixer bowl, combine 1 cup of the flour and the yeast. In saucepan, heat together milk, water, sugar, salt and cardamom just until warm (115 to 120 degrees), stirring constantly. Add to dry mixture in mixer bowl. Beat at low speed of electric mixer for 1/2 minute, scraping sides of bowl constantly.

Beat 3 minutes at high speed. Add remaining ingredients with enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead and let rise twice.

Shape into a round loaf and place in 9-inch round pan. Cover and let rise until double. Brush surface with beaten egg (optional). Bake at 350 degrees until light brown, about 30-40 minutes.
