RED VELVET CAKE AND FROSTING 
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 (2 oz.) red food coloring
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vinegar

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add vanilla. Make a pate with cocoa and coloring. Add salt, flour and milk. Alternately add soda and vinegar. Do not beat hard just blend. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

FROSTING:

3 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
1 c. powdered sugar

Cook flour and milk on low heat until thick. Cool. Cream sugar, butter and shortening until fluffy. Add milk mixture. Beat until mixture is like whipped cream.
