BAVARIAN APPLE TORT 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. (1 1/2 tbsp.) sugar
3/4 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
8 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 egg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
4 c. peeled sliced apples
1/4 c. sliced almonds

Cream butter, 1/3 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla; blend in flour. Spread dough in the bottom of a greased and floured 9 inch springform pan, spread dough up sides of pan 1 1/2 inches. Mix cream cheese with 1/3 cup sugar. Add egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix together and pour into pastry shell.

Combine 1/3 cup sugar, cinnamon and apple slices. Toss well, arrange in circles over cream cheese filling and sprinkle with almonds. Before baking, place sheet of aluminum foil under pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes (or until center is set). Let cool before removing sides of (or until center is set). Let cool before removing sides of pan. Store in refrigerator, but set out a few minutes before serving.
