Crock Pot Applesauce

I did a double recipe. I suggest 3/4 c. water, 1 c. sugar, 1 tbsp. cinnamon.... If you follow the one above at a double recipe it comes out really sweet.

SKIP the sugar altogether, depending on what kind of apples you're using. I used Staman apples, and replaced the water with apple cider. It turned out incredibly delicious! I'm going out and buy some more apples at the farmer's market.

I went with only 1/4 (if that) of sugar and cooked them in apple cider instead of water...divine. I am going to have a hard time eating the stuff in the little cups from the store after this.

Skip the sugar! Just apples and water make for some delicious applesauce without any extra sugar. It's super sweet on its own unless you're using tart apples.

Am diabetic so I used a sugar substitute. I also used several different kind of apples. Left it chunky. Came out delicious...

I use 7-up in place of the water and do not use sugar. I use a little nutmeg and cinnamon. Very good. We peel and core and cut up the apples, as we do not like to run it thru a food mill, as it gets to baby food consistency that way, and we like ours a little ore coarse. Very fun to make too.

I left out the sugar and added one peeled, cored and cut up pear. Sweet enough and added a nice flavor.

Can it be frozen once cooked??
How long does applesauce last for?

 Cooks.com replies:
Hi J,

You can freeze the applesauce. It keeps in the refrigerator for about a week, or it may be canned by processing pint jars in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes.

I only used 8 apples since 10 would have filled the pot all the way to the top, but I would use 10, maybe more to completely fill the pot since it reduces a lot. Also I would use only 1/2 cup sugar at the most because it does come out very sweet, and you can alway add more later. Otherwise very good! I used McIntosh and it tastes way better than the stuff you buy!

Very, very tasty, the kind my mother use to make and so easy.

The applesauce was great, we made it for the kids in our kindergarten class..

The crock pot was never considered for processing apples. What a great walk away and go to work idea. My plan is to go traditional and bypassed the initial peeling and coring (w/the exception of damaged sections in the fruit), then letting my husband run the sauce through the food mill. The spice and any needed sweetening will be added then.

I melt some red cinnamon candies in hot water and add to sauce and I get a pink applesauce..

This came out great! After the first batch, I modified the recipe to use a tablespoon of honey instead of sugar and hard cider instead of water. It was less sweet than the recipe posted.

I'd give it 5 stars but I modified per the other comments. I used 3 tbsp. of sugar and it was still VERY sweet. I used Macintosh apples. I am making again today but will not add any sugar this time. I used 1/2 cup apple cider instead of water... Fantastic and so easy in the crock pot. Mine was done in 5 hours on low.

I just made applesauce today and instead of water, I used apple cider. Also, instead of sugar, I used brown sugar. It turned out fabulous!

This is a really good recipe. Mine turned out a little watery, but for homemade applesauce it was delicious.

Made this today but it is a little runny... I would omit the water or cider next time and use 1/4 cup brown sugar or honey next time. All in all, it was a close 2nd to my usual stove top applesauce but way less work.

Instead of water, I used apple juice. I don't add sugar, since the apples were sweet enougb from our apple tree. I usually let it cool down, then put in containers or canning jars & freeze it.
