REAL APPLE DUMPLINGS 
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
Ice water (about 7 tbsp.)
6 med. apples
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. butter

Cut shortening into flour and salt and add the ice water a little at a time until pastry will hold together. Roll dough into a rectangular shape and cut into six squares. Peel and core apples and place an apple on each square. Fill cavity of each apple with sugar; sprinkle with cinnamon and dot with butter. Wet edges of pastry and fold up points over the apple. Seal well. Place apples in a baking pan, two inches apart. Put in oven that has been preheated to 475 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. 6 servings. Top with lemon sauce, if desired.
