They way my family makes them, we fry chopped up bacon with the onions/butter and add that to the dumplings with bit of the grease. Salt and pepper to taste. Also goes great with sauerkraut on top if you like that.

I am so excited find this recipe. My Grandma used to make these with a twist. The dumpling were made as directed but she then cubed pork steak, floured the pieces and browned. She then added some of the water, used to boil the dumpling, to the browned pork steak to make a gravy. The dumplings were then added to the pork steak. YUM

This is similar to my moms recipe. We cut up salt pork and fry to dip it in. Never heard of cottage cheese with it. Klusky is my fav! Our potato noodels are not in balls though. We make pinky sized noodles and boil for 20 min.

My family is polish and also makes these all the time. One thing that we love to do that adds ALOT of extra flavor. With the butter and onions we also put bacon and cooked cabbage with it. It brings the flavor of the Kuluskis out WONDERFULLY!!!! Enjoy and Happy Cooking!!!

Love the potato dumpling. At our house, we would fry bacon and onions in a pan then add the potato dumplings till warm. Next we scramble a few eggs and cook until set. Sooo good.

My Busia (Polish-American for Grandmother) taught me how to make these. Very similar to what is given here, except she boiled them in good chicken stock, and then fried them in butter. I can still feel her looking over my shoulder every time I make them. I love & miss you Bus!

Kluski to me is "potato dumpling soup"...fry bacon pieces, add water to the bacon and drippings, bring to a boil. Then take potato batter (similar to this recipe..grated raw potatoes, grated onions etc), drop into boiling water to form dumpling, they float to top when done, then add large curd cottage cheese to soup, and serve. Never found ANYONE who didn't like it. From my polish father in Buffalo New York.

My Mom made these every so often.
She would put fried cabbage and onion in butter and serve over them. Sooo good on a cold night. Real Polish Soul Food!

Yea!!! I found that recipe! When I was little, we drove to wisc. To see my Great Aunt, Dorothy. She always brought us a big bowl of Polish Kluski! I loved it! She added some bacon bits and some grease. After she passed away, I asked my mom if she had her recipe. She said no, Aunt Dot always remembered and made them from her Polish ancestors. That recipe looks easy for her to remember and not needing the recipe. Thank you for sharing!
