I love this cake! We use strawberry or cherry jello. It's great for summer, very light. My mom used to make this for me when I was little and now I make it for my kids. It's a great recipe!

Are you supposed to pour ALL of the Jello liquid over the cake???? That sounds weird! One and one half cups of liquid on top of a cake?? Wont the cake get all soggy??

@Dennis, Jello does not stay liquid when it cools. duh.

This has been my birthday cake for over 30 years, but I add drained crush pineapple in the whipcream along with vanilla pudding

I do this with Strawberry cake mix and Strawberry Jello, topped with Whipped Cream and it's my kids favorite

I like making cupcakes so each of my grand children can add their own flavor of Jello :))

I have been making this as a two layer cake for 40 years as a Christmas Cake. I use cherry jello for the 1st layer and lime for the 2nd layer. I ice with Cool Whip.

I decorate the cake with colored sugar... candy canes... whatever moves me at the moment. I place on a beautiful pedestal cake plate with lid... place in the freezer.. you can set this out at the beginning of your Christmas Dinner and by the time to eat dessert it will be thawed.

My family loves it and insists I make the "Christmas Cake" every year. While I only do Christmas you could do many variations for Easter and other holidays.
