WALRUS SALAD | |
2 lg. red apples Lemon juice 2 stalks celery 1/2 c. walnuts (out of their shells) 1/2 c. mayonnaise or plain yogurt 1/2 c. raisins Grown up assistant with a knife Wash the apples and cut in halves. Cutting out the cores and stems can be a little tricky. You might want to check with your grown-up assistant about who should do this. After the apples have been cored and the stems removed, cut them into small pieces. Squirt them with lemon juice so they won't turn brown. Then wash the celery and cut the leaves and thick ends off and chop the rest into little bite-sized pieces. You can chop up the shelled walnuts with a knife or you can put them into a paper bag and walk on them. (Actually, better put 2 or 3 paper bags together for this!) Once the walnuts are crushed or chopped, put them along with the mayonnaise (or yogurt) as well as the apples and raisins, into a big enough bowl and mix up. Serve and eat! And be sure to put any leftovers into the refrigerator. |
