Add a layer of green beans to this and it makes a complete meal! I used to love making this when I was working. Make it ahead, come home and pop it in the oven and 45 minutes later you are ready to eat. I also used cream of mushroom soup... which ever I had in the pantry.

I make this often, but add a can of drained corn to the meat & onion, and use cream of mushroom soup. Always a winner!

Instead of Cream of whatever soup, I use Campbell's Turkey Gravy, because it easier on my little one's stomach (no milk). Oh and I also add a can of Publix brand mixed veggies after the gravy/hamburger meat. Very yummy!!

Golden mushroom soup is the best... It just seems to add more flavor than regular mushroom soup... Also add 2 cans of french cut green beans to this recipe!

I have tried this both as stated above in the original recipe and using Sloppy Joe mix instead of the soup. Although both are very good, my family likes it with the sloppy joe sauce the best!

I put 1 - 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef (not cooked) into a casserole dish and pat it down so that it is level. Add 1 chopped onion. Add 1 or 2 cans undiluted cream of (whatever flavor you prefer) soup. Spread it around on top of the onion. I bag frozen tater tots get smashed down on top of that. Cover and bake for 1 hour at 350 - 375. Very easy and kids love it.

I forgot one thing. Uncover for the last 10 or 15 minutes so the tots can brown.

I haven't tried it your way yet, but it sounds good and no fuss,no muss. I would use at least 85/15 burger for less fat/ water in the meat. We are on vacation, but trying it your way when we get home for an easy meal. With a green salad

My wife and I have almost completed raising 8 kids. Tot casserole was always popular. I always made mine in a 9 x 13 glass pan or larger depending on how much company our kids broung home. I use two small bags of tots, 2 lbs of cooked ground beef, 1 pound of grated cheese, 1 can cream mushroom soup, 1 can of cream celery soup, 1 can beef broth. Put a layer of tots in the bottom of dish neatly arranged in rows. After draining browned ground beef, add the three cans of soup and mix well. Pour over tots and spread evenly. Add another nicely lined up layer of tots and cook in pre heated oven at 350°F for 50 minutes. Spread grated cheese over top and cook ten more minutes. Remove and enjoy. My kids love it. Some cold sour cream is a grreat addition. Another add on is if you have nacho cheese spread some on top of the meat layer. Yummy.

I am a lactose vegetarian. Which means no meat and no dairy. I use the meat crumbles and cream of potato leek soup(no dairy). I also put in a layer of green beans! Yum yum. Comfort food!

Love this recipe. To make it a complete meal I add one or two veggies to the hamburger. My family likes corn the best but I've also use broccoli, peas, carrots, cauliflower, whatever I have on hand.

I was making this for dinner one night and forgot how my mom prepared it for us and made it meatloaf style instead of the crumbled ground beef way. I poured the cream of mushroom sauce over the loaf after it had cooked through and then topped it with the tator tots. Once the tots had browned I added the cheese and let that get good and melty and browned.. It was kind of a long process for tator tot casserole but my husband will only eat it this way now :)

I have 7 children so this meal goes a long way! Been making this for over 10 years. But instead of cream of celery we use regular mushroom soup. Just cook our meat once cooked add soup/ bit of water (I make it a bit watered down) Taters seem to cook a lot better.. Line taters in a pan, 2-3 tot high. pour meat topping... cook about an hour. I over cook it to make sure the bottom is crispy! Its Yumm'O! My little ones like it topped with Cheese! My husband likes a little spice...

Because my wife doesn't really like onions I don't put the onion in, however I do put a little onion powder in when she isn't looking. I also include a can of cheddar cheese soup and a couple handfuls of cheese in the mixture. We also found that we prefer to use the hashbrown patties in place of the tater tots.

Easy and the family loves it - add cheese to it and some salt and pepper - tastes like cheeseburger casserole that way.

I like to put shredded cheddar cheese on top of tots after it's done. I just leave it in the oven an extra 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Very good!

Tater tot casserole is in the top 5 of my favorite meals because it is so easy!! I brown the pound & a half of ground beef, the add 1 can of undiluted cream of onion soup. This gives it a spicy flavor without using real onions. Either that or I use cream of celery or mushroom, and onion tater tots. I put a layer of American cheese in between the meat & the tater tots for a cheeseburger taste. Most of the time I use french cut green beans, but one time I did not have them, so I used a can of veg-all instead. This mix of veggies gave it a fuller taste and the only way I could get my kids to eat more veggies!! Has anyone heard of putting sour cream in the mixture?? I never had until I wanted to buy some at my local sentry food store and I saw that it was very white around the edges & in the middle, so I asked why & they said they put in sour cream! I did not buy it because my family does not use a lot of sour cream, except maybe on a baked potato!! Another time when I did buy some @ sentry, I found tomatoes in it, & I am allergic to tomatoes, & I took it back!! Thank you for listening!!
