CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH VINEGAR (ANTIQUE
RECIPE STILL VERY GOOD)

1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. milk soured with 1 tbsp. vinegar
2 c. sifted flour
4 tbsp. cocoa mixed to a soft paste with warm water (quantity of water varies, just add slowly and stir)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening, add sugar, mix well to fluffy. Add one egg, unbeaten, then the other. Beat two minutes. Sift salt and flour together. Add alternately with sour milk. Add cocoa paste, vanilla. Last add soda dissolved in vinegar (mix in cup large enough to hold the "fizz"). Bake in 9 x 13 inch pan, greased and floured (with cocoa); 350 degrees about 20 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
