1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. unsulphured molasses
1 egg
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Cream together shortening, sugar and molasses until creamy. Add egg and beat 2 minutes. Sift dry ingredients and add to batter about 1 cup at a time and mix thoroughly. Chill 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Roll out 1/4 inch on lightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutter and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 5 to 6 minutes for small cookies and 10 to 12 minutes for large cookies.
