BUTTER LETTER 
4 c. flour
1 c. milk
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar
1 lb. butter or half and half

Mix well; place in refrigerator overnight.

FILLING:

1 1/2 lb. almond paste
3 eggs
2 c. sugar

Mix this well and place in refrigerator overnight.

Divide pastry and filling into 6 pieces or more depending on the size of lettuce you want. Roll out each piece of pastry into strips, approximately 5-6 inches. Then take a piece of almond filling and with your hands to get a stick, approximately 1 inch in diameter. Place almond stick on pastry and roll pastry around stick. Shape into desired lettuce. Brush with egg or egg white. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
