1 pkg. (8 oz.) elbow macaroni
1 pt. cottage cheese
1 med. onion, chopped
2 tbsp. cooking oil
1 1/2 lb. hamburger
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. flour
8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 tsp. Italian salad dressing
1/2 lb. (2 c.) shredded American cheese
Buttered bread crumbs

Cook macaroni and combine with cottage cheese. Saute onion in oil, add hamburger and cook until lightly brown. Stir in flour, Italian dressing, salt, tomato sauce and cook 3 to 4 minutes.

Combining in layers, pour 1/3 of meat mixture into 2 quart casserole. Top with 1/2 of macaroni/cottage cheese mixture, then 1/2 of shredded cheese. Repeat 1/3 of sauce, remaining macaroni/cottage cheese mixture, then remaining shredded cheese. Top with the remaining 1/3 sauce. Sprinkle buttered bread crumbs on top. Bake uncovered in low oven (325 degrees) 45 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes before serving. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
