4 c. pears
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. water
Pastry (enough for sides and top)

Combine sugar and water, bring to a boil and let boil for about 3 minutes. Add pears to sugar and water and cook until pears are just tender.

Line sides of casserole dish with pastry and put half the pears in bottom of dish, dot with butter and a sprinkling of flour, add the rest of the pears and repeat with butter and flour, pour syrup over and top with pastry. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until brown.

(I sprinkle pears with a little lemon juice to prevent them from darkening.)
