MADEIRA CAKE 
1 c. plain flour
2 level tsp. baking powder
Pinch of salt
4 oz. butter
2/3 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla flavor
4 tbsp. milk
2 thin strips citron peel
1/2 c. raisins

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 6" cake tin.

Sieve together the plain flour, baking powder and salt. Cream together the fat and sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, adding a little flour with each. Add the vanilla flavor. Fold in the remainder of the flour alternately with the milk to produce a smooth, fairly soft batter. Fold in raisins. Place in prepared tin. Bake in a moderate oven for about 1 1/4 hours.

Baking period is far too long, it's more like 45 minutes. I'd also suggest 350°F, not 375°F.
