HAMBURGER STEAKS WITH BROWN
GRAVY
 
1 lb. ground beef
1 sm. onion
1 tbsp. catsup
2 slices toast or oatmeal
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Soften toast with water. Mix with other ingredients. Add beef to mixture. Place in frying pan with 1 tablespoon cooking oil. Brown on both sides; remove from pan. Place in baking dish. Slice small onion over meat.

BROWN GRAVY:

3 tbsp. flour
2 c. water
2 tbsp. catsup
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp. black pepper

Stir flour in pan meat was cooked in. Stir until brown. Add water, catsup, black pepper. When gravy thickens, pour over meat. Cover and bake in oven for 30 minutes at 375 degrees. This can also be cooked in the crock pot on low overnight.

Tasty but weirdly sweet. I don't think it's because of the beef bouillon I added. Next time I'll substitute tomato sauce for some of the ketchup.

Loved it but next time will try a couple beef bouillon cubes dissolved in those 2 cups of water and leave out the ketchup in the gravy. I want it to be a bit beefier tasting.
