4 egg whites
1 c. sugar
1 c. walnuts, finely chopped
1 sq. chocolate, grated


2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
3/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Use angel food pan.

Beat egg whites stiff to hold soft peaks. Add 1 cup sugar slowly, beating until it stands stiff peaks. Fold in nuts and chocolate. Grease pan sides, bottom and tube and line bottom with waxed paper. Spread meringue evenly over bottom and 3/4 up sides tube and pan.

Cake: Cream sugar and butter. Add egg yolks, vanilla and milk. Add dry ingredients. Pour into meringue lined tube pan. Bake 60-70 minutes at 325 degrees. Remove from oven. Cool 20 minutes upright, then put on serving dish. Pan should slip away from cake sides. With cake, remove tube from cake bottom. Cool completely before serving.
