This stuff really works! My name should have been ex froggy throat. I didn't follow all the directions I took 3 tablespoons long before bed but I was getting my voice back in 30 minutes!!

I submitted the recipe - but did not put something in... We had a guy at work - that could not speak above a whisper for 2 solid weeks... I gave him a batch of this..

HONEST... the next day - his voice was totally normal. Everyone in the entire facility - asked for copies of this recipe... as they knew this guy....

IT DOES WORK... This recipe is probably from the 1920's and 1930's.

can I use any kind of whiskey? Never heard of ROCK & RYE

 Phyllis Chittum (Virginia) replies:
There must be something special in the "Rocky & Rye" whiskey. This recipe being from the 20's & 30's..so it is an old time whiskey and is cheap. Any ABC store should have this, just ask for it by name. I am unsure if this would work with another type.

 Sherry Nestleroad (United States) replies:
It's probably the rye that is the special ingredient but there is rye in the Canadian Clubs... Rock and Rye is hard to find

 Missy Beach-Zola (Texas) replies:
Jack Daniels now makes a whiskey & rye. So it should be pretty easy to find now.

 Kathy Patrick (Kentucky) replies:
You can use rock candy, that is what is in rock and rye and any rye whiskey and Tennessee honey whiskey as well. You can order rock and rye on the Internet and they will deliver it to you.

The Rock & Rye - can be found at your local ABC store... whiskey section... bottom shelf. Very inexpensive. Use cider vinegar... Am thankful this recipe was still published, as I have been unable to locate my original copy!

 Bill Eckert (New York) replies:
Rock and rye is a whiskey that is bottled with various pieces of citrus fruit. This recipe works well for a sore throat. If you have a cold or the flu, place 2 shots in a cup of tea with honey and lemon. drink as hot as you can tolerate. This will cause you to sweat. Cold will be gone in morning.

My mother and her mother gave me and my siblings this recipe when we were kids for colds. We were better by the next day. It's not the tasty cough syrup but it really works. I am now giving to my family, it's a great alternative to store bought cough syrup and it works faster.

I dissolve Cherry Hall's cough drops in vodka. Works like a charm!

 Don (United States) replies:
Why not just sit in your recliner with a pitcher of Bloody Marys and suck on a Hall's Cough Drop? Crackers and Pepper-Jack Cheese optional.

 Kevin (Pennsylvania) says:
Since you only take a small amount, can you store it and for how long.
 #188401
 Barbara Gardner (Oklahoma) replies:
Just store in your refrigerator like it says in the recipe!

 RDM (United States) replies:
This stuff will probably keep forever in the fridge. It should never spoil since it contains a whole pint of whiskey. The alcohol should keep all bacteria and germs at bay. And it probably tastes better and goes down more smoothly as it ages. It might be a lifetime supply of cough syrup. :)
