POLISH SWEET-SOUR CABBAGE
1 lb. bacon, chopped fine
5 lbs. finely chopped cabbage
2 med. onions
2 tbsp. salt
1/2 tbsp. white pepper
2 qts. water
2 c. white vinegar
2 c. sugar

Fry bacon, do not drain off grease. In large pot, add cabbage, bacon and grease, onion, salt, pepper and the water. Bring to boil, cook 10 minutes more. Add sugar and vinegar. Let simmer 15 to 20 minuets until cabbage is tender. Best served hot. Keeps well in quart jars in refrigerator. Goes great with Kielbasa cooked in cabbage and served with mashed potatoes as side dish.

This is the best sweet and sour cabbage ever! Reminds me of my aunt Dorothy every time I make it. I however, add a bit less sugar. Very sweet. Start with a cup and a half and add if desired.

Just like I remember my aunt making and serving with potato dumplings! Our families favorite Sunday dinner when we would visit. I used a sweet onion and added the vinegar and sugar a bit at a time to get it just right. This will be my go to cabbage recipe. 💕️ Made and reviewed for WOTM tag game.

This is also wonderful - using chicken broth instead of the water. I use Herb-ox bouillon (no sodium)... and also add 1 package chicken flavor to this. Have also done this with a ham hock - instead of the bacon. This recipe is a keeper!
